When I was painting this piece, Psalm 18:19 was in my mind: "He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me." Living in the prairies, I certainly know what it's like to live in a literally spacious place! But I also like how it symbolizes the freedom that God gives us. He's not a God who puts us in a tiny cave or a prison. He places us in the wide open plains.
